They range in materials and design from simple wooden planks nailed to the wall all the way to MDF and UPVC options in different mould shapes and colours and indeed different heights.

Plastic baseboards are usually in white but are available in different colours from specialist retailers, this option is flexible and hence easier to fit and as it comes in the right colour, doesn’t need painting

Plastic baseboard is usually available in white or a flexible version in several colours and is usually glued to the wall with grip fill of other specialist adhesive.
Wooden baseboards are often available in more styles, colours and mouldings, they are available in untreated, stained or painted. There are also a choice of wood materials to choose from, softwood are most often used but some hardwood options are out there albeit at an extra cost.

You may feel you can fit your skirting boards yourself, if you have the right tools and relevant experience then this is an option though it is likely an experienced carpenter is better placed to do the perfect job, fitting skirting boards is not as easy as people think!
